Measured to the window, wall, and view
Bay windows and older walls are rarely perfectly square, so a fitted seat begins with careful site measurements. We plan the bench depth around comfortable seating, available floor area, curtains or shades, window operation, and the view outside. The face and side panels are scribed to the room, and trim details are matched so the finished seat looks like it has always been part of the house.
The right storage access for the room
Wide drawers are easy to reach without moving the cushion and work well for linens, toys, and games. Lift-up lids can provide deeper storage in tighter rooms, using soft-close stays and finger-safe details. Open cubbies suit baskets and everyday items, while side towers can add bookshelves or wardrobes. We choose the access method after considering nearby furniture and how the seat will be used.
Heating, airflow, and sunlight
Many Toronto windows have a radiator, baseboard heater, or floor register directly below them. We do not simply box these in. The design maintains required clearances and airflow using grilles, toe-kick channels, or a bench layout that redirects heat safely into the room. Cushion foam and fabrics can also be selected for a sunny exposure so they hold their shape and colour.
A small project with a finished-room result
We coordinate carpentry, electrical changes, wall repair, paint, and upholstery so the seat does not stop at an unfinished cabinet box. Optional sconces, outlets, side shelving, and a custom cushion can make it a reading spot, breakfast perch, toy-storage bench, or quiet corner in a bedroom. You receive drawings and finish samples before the build begins.
